Dizziness can be an extremely uncomfortable symptom and is quite common and often leads to inability to move and trips to the Emergency Room. It can be a feeling of lightheadedness where something does not feel balanced or right. People can also experience a feeling of movement or spinning which is referred to as vertigo. Depending on what condition is causing these symptoms, sufferers can also experience visual change, hearing change, nausea, vomiting, or other symptoms.
There are many reasons people can experience dizziness. Workup of dizziness always includes finding out more information from the patient, a full neurological exam, and sometimes also includes imaging and blood tests. The problem may stem from the ear and peripheral nervous system, after an infection, or from a brain problem such as a stroke or other brain lesion.
