Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a chronic disabling condition that leads to terrible pain throughout the entire body. Patients who suffer from fibromyalgia have a heightened response to stimuli, leading to pain. There are many theories as to why it occurs but evidence suggests that is the pain pathways of the body functioning abnormally that leads to the disease.
Patients often go for years without a diagnosis as they visit many doctors and have many tests done that come back negative. Often, sufferers of Fibromyalgia are shunned by others or even by doctors since tests come back normal and other people cannot actually see where the pain is coming from.
The pain is disabling and is exacerbated by practically everything including exercise, work, and other basic activities. Patients often cannot work or function normally as a result of their pain. This can lead to sleep problems, mood problems, fatigue, memory problems and significant disability in general.
