Headaches in Children
Much like adults, headache disorders are common in children. It is the most common symptom of pain children have, and recurrent headaches can occur in 1/3 of children. Harder to diagnosis, children often do not display the same symptoms as adults and often cannot fully describe their pain. Often, it can take more than one year to correctly diagnosis the cause of a headache in children for non headache experts.
Nonetheless, their headaches can significantly impact their life and daily functioning.
When evaluating headaches in children, it is important to exclude dangerous causes of headache such as tumors, vascular problems, and anatomic malformations.
