Newly Approved CGRP Inhibitor Injections for Migraine
In 2018, the USA approved 3 new medications for the treatment of migraine. This is an exciting time to be a doctor treating headaches as these new developments allow us to offer new effective therapies for people who are suffering from migraine and oral medications are not helping.
There are 3 new therapies (Aimovig, Ajovy, Emgality), all of which are injected under the skin once a month (Ajovy once every 3 months) by a doctor or by patients themselves. They target the framework of a specific chemical in the head that causes migraine called CGRP (Calcitonin Gene Related Peptide) and have the potential to improve people’s lives significantly. Furthermore, they are safe and well tolerated and don’t have the many side effects that oral therapies do.
Contact Dr. Sharon’s office to learn more about these new therapies. For those who would like access to the medications quickly, despite insurance not automatically approving them, Dr. Sharon has a license in the United States and can write a prescription there, where they are immediately available.
